Survey: American Cardiologists Increasingly Integrating Practices, Abandoning Independence; Health Care Reform Seen As Major Factor

JACKSONVILLE, FL, June 1, 2010 — A new nationwide survey has found that the days of the independent cardiologist may be numbered. The survey of more than 150 cardiology practices, conducted by MedAxiom, reveals that heart doctors are increasingly seeking to combine their practices, or integrate them with other health care organizations, such as hospitals. The doctors and other health professionals who answered the survey reported that more than half of their practices (60%) have either already fully integrated or are considering integration; only 28% said they are not currently considering consolidation or will never consider it.

Survey: American Cardiologists Highly Skeptical Of Health Care Reform’s Effect On Their Patients, Practice

JACKSONVILLE, FL, April 5, 2010 — American cardiologists believe that recently passed health care reform will have a negative effect on both their cardiology patients and their practices, according to a new survey. The survey of more than 225 cardiologists and cardiology professionals, conducted in late March by MedAxiom, revealed that 71 percent of those who answered the survey believe the newly-enacted legislation will hurt their ability to serve their patients. 81 percent said they believe the law will hurt their overall practice, with 83 percent predicting that their revenue will decrease. The numbers are statistically significant, because 68n percent said they were opposed to the health care reform bill prior to its passage by Congress.
